The International Society of Rapid Response Systems publish landmark consensus document

5th Jun 2019

The International Society of Rapid Response Systems with representation from across Europe, Australia, Africa, Asia and the US have recently published a landmark consensus document  with regards to the core outcomes for reporting for quality improvement within Rapid Response Teams.

Resuscitation. 2019 May 23. pii: S0300-9572(19)30180-7. doi: 10.1016/j.resuscitation.2019.05.012. [Epub ahead of print]

These metrics include outcome measures related to the structure, process and outcome for Rapid Response Systems / Teams and should include information on issues such as:

  • cardiac arrests and their potential predictability
  • timeliness of escalation
  • critical care interventions
  • presence of written treatment goals for patients remaining on the ward
  • presence of patient activated rapid response

As a Critical Care Outreach nurse this is an exciting development especially with regards to the inclusion of the requirements / benefits of a patient activated rapid response system - something I'm very passionate about.
